Privacy policy
Who we are. abereka.co.bw is operated by Triton Networking Technology (Pty) Ltd, registration number BW00000187934, Plot 2772, Phiri Crescent, Gaborone, Botswana. We are the data controller for the information described here. Contact us through the corrections page.
What we collect
- Reports, guesses, reactions and shouts you send: the service or area, what’s wrong, your town and optional area, street or landmark. We never ask for your name, phone number or account details. Please don’t type personal information into the landmark box; we remove phone and plot numbers automatically.
- A scrambled code from your internet address: we turn your IP address into a one-way code with a key that changes every day, and use it only to stop spam and duplicate reports. We never store your IP address itself, and we delete these codes after 72 hours.
- Things saved on your phone only: your chosen area, language, badges and alert settings stay in your browser and never reach us.
- Visitor statistics and ads: if you choose “Accept all”, Google Analytics and Google AdSense set cookies to measure visits and show ads. If you choose “Essential only”, we do not load Google Analytics and Google shows non-personalised ads.
- Alerts: if you turn on “Tell me when it’s back”, our notification provider (OneSignal) stores a notification token and the area you watch.
- Forms: if you contact us to advertise or ask for a correction, we keep your name, email and message to reply.
Why we use it
We process this information because we have a legitimate interest in running an accurate, spam-free public status service, and with your consent for analytics and personalised ads. We publish only counts by area, never individual reports linked to a person.
How long we keep it
Internet address codes: 72 hours. Reports and reactions: up to 180 days, after which only totals remain. Form messages: as long as needed to deal with your request.
Where it is stored
Our website is hosted by our hosting provider and protected by Cloudflare. Google and OneSignal may process data outside Botswana under their own safeguards.
Your rights
Under the Data Protection Act, 2024, you can ask to access, correct or delete information about you, and object to its use. You can also complain to the Information and Data Protection Commission of Botswana.
We do not sell personal information.
